Our History
More than 34 years ago, Resource Recovery Australia (RRA) began with a simple but powerful idea: that resources don't have to be wasted, and that people doing it tough deserve a fair go.
34+
Back in the early 1990s, we started on the MidCoast of NSW with a desire to keep valuable resources out of landfill while creating meaningful jobs for people in our communities who often struggled to find work.
We saw potential where others saw problems. We focused on rescuing resources from landfill while helping people overlooked by the job market
Building Bigger
Today, RRA operates Reviva Reuse Shops, transfer stations, weighbridges, Community Recycling Centres, and container deposit services across the country.
We've expanded into mobile problem waste services with the Mobile Community Recycling Service (MCRS) in Western Sydney. The MCRS is the first NSW EPA approved and fully licensed collection service for problem waste.
We deliver hands-on education through The Tinkerage – popular community spaces where we hold hands-on educational workshops where you can learn to repair, repurpose, and rethink waste.
We've saved tens of thousands of tonnes of waste from landfill and supported thousands of people into work — many of whom have faced barriers like long-term unemployment, disability, or disadvantage.
Every item we re-home and every job we create is part of a bigger story of change.
#WASTE2WAGES and beyond
Our #WASTE2WAGES model is at the heart of what we do. We take what others throw away and turn it into training, employment, and opportunity. We work with councils and communities to deliver waste services that make a difference — environmentally, socially, and locally.
In 2021, we proudly marked 30 years of impact. And we're not slowing down. As Australia moves toward a more circular economy, we're ready to play our part — helping councils meet waste targets, supporting community resilience, and putting people and planet first.
