SERVICES : Container Deposit Scheme
NSW Container Deposit Scheme, Return and Earn
ABOUT THE SERVICE

Bottles, cans and cartons make up a large proportion of the litter on our streets, beaches and green spaces. Tackling the problem costs NSW millions of dollars every year. The NSW container deposit scheme, Return and Earn, commenced across NSW on 1 December 2017.

You can return eligible containers and claim your 10 cent return at RRA’s automated depot at Tuncurry Waste Management Centre (Midge Orchid Rd, Tuncurry).

The Return and Earn automated depot is located just inside the gates at Tuncurry Waste Management Centre. Customers can return small or large quantities of eligible containers.

ELIGIBLE CONTAINERS

Eligible Containers: most drink bottles and cans

The following containers are most commonly found as litter in NSW. They’re often consumed ‘on the go.’
  • Cans (e.g. soft drinks)
  • Bottles ( e.g. beer bottles)
  • Cartons
  • Juice boxes or poppers

Most containers between 150ml and 3 litres are accepted and can get you a refund. However, they must

  • Be in good condition (not be crushed or broken)
  • Be empty
  • Have the label attached

Not Eligible: items that are not refundable

These items aren’t accepted, but can still go into household recycling. They’re often used at home.
