Reviva Reuse Shops | Mitchell Shire Council and Resource Recovery Australia

Background story

Mitchell Shire Council is committed to becoming a waste wise shire that lives the principles of a circular economy and protects our environment and community from the impacts of waste. The opening of the Reviva Reuse Shops at the Wallan and Seymour Resource Recovery Centres is a practical example of that commitment in action. The shops support waste avoidance and reuse by keeping quality items in circulation and out of landfill, aligning directly with Council’s Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030.

Following a competitive tender process, Council engaged Resource Recovery Australia to deliver this project because of their strong track record in reuse, community engagement and social enterprise outcomes. RRA is a national not for profit social enterprise and registered charity with experience delivering successful reuse shop models in regional communities across Australia.

Through the Reviva Reuse Shops, RRA will rescue and resell a wide range of pre loved household goods, such as furniture, kitchenware, books, toys, exercise equipment, tools,  garden and renovation items. The shops will feature a constantly changing range of recovered or donated items ensuring materials that still have value remain in use. All electrical items will be tested and tagged prior to sale.

The partnership delivers clear social outcomes for Mitchell Shire through local job creation and skills development. Resource Recovery Australia operates under its proven #WASTE2WAGES model, creating employment and training opportunities for people facing barriers to work. The Reviva Reuse Shops at Wallan and Seymour will create up to nine local jobs, supporting workforce participation while building practical skills in reuse operations, customer service and resource recovery that contribute directly to the day to day operation of Council facilities.

The Reviva Reuse Shops will open on Saturday 14 March and will operate Thursday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm at the Wallan and Seymour Resource Recovery Centres. Council encourages residents to visit the shops, bring in donations, support reuse and be part of a more sustainable future for Mitchell Shire.
