Reviva Reuse Shops | Mitchell Shire Council and Resource Recovery Australia

This short video, produced by Mitchell Shire Council, showcases the new Reviva Reuse Shops at the Seymour and Wallan Resource Recovery Centres, and highlights just how easy it is for the community to donate, shop, and keep valuable items in circulation rather than sending them to landfill.

Mayor John Dougall, CSC has been a passionate advocate for reducing landfill and making reuse part of everyday waste management. By stepping on site and showing how the Reviva Reuse Shops work in practice, Council is helping normalise smarter ways of managing waste and encouraging community participation in reuse.

Reuse plays a critical role in reducing the amount of material sent to landfill and easing pressure on waste management systems. When residents donate good‑quality items instead of disposing of them as general waste, it not only keeps resources in use, it can also help reduce landfill disposal and waste management costs for the broader community.

The Reviva Reuse Shops are operated by Resource Recovery Australia (RRA) in partnership with Mitchell Shire Council. Through RRA’s #WASTE2WAGES social enterprise model, the shops deliver both environmental and social outcomes by creating local jobs and training opportunities for people facing barriers to employment, while supporting landfill diversion through reuse.

Projects like this show what’s possible when councils and social enterprises work together to deliver practical, community‑focused solutions. Leadership, collaboration, and community involvement are key to changing how we think about waste, shifting perceptions, and building a more sustainable future.
