Something for everyone at the Reviva Reuse Shop

Clarence Valley Council magazine - issue 17

Almost six tonnes of unwanted items have been diverted from landfill in the first month of operations at the ‘tip shop’.

“My favourite part of the job is seeing a customer’s face light up when they find the thing they’re looking for … it’s an amazing opportunity to connect quality items with people and give those items a second life instead of ending up in landfill." Reviva Reuse Shop employee Mandie Burgess

Furniture, bicycles, books, DVDs, building materials, fishing rods, garden equipment, sporting goods, tools, toys, and even a kitchen sink or two – there’s something for everybody at the newly opened Grafton Reviva Reuse Shop.

An estimated six tonnes of unwanted items found a new home rather than going to landfill in the first month of operation of the new ‘tip shop’, officially opened in August. The shop forms part of the new contract for Clarence Valley waste transfer stations operated on Council’s behalf by national not-for-profit charity Resource Recovery Australia. The volume of waste diverted from landfill is expected to increase as the business grows.

Items are either donated directly to the Reviva Reuse Shop or sorted from waste dropped off at the transfer station.

The social enterprise not only gives a new lease on life to items that would have gone to landfill, it also creates employment opportunities for people, including those with barriers to employment.
