Reviva: More Than a Tip Shop

Reviva: More Than a Tip Shop – It’s a Reuse Shop with a Purpose

At Resource Recovery Australia (RRA), we’re more than just a waste management organisation. As a not-for-profit social enterprise, we’ve spent the last 30 years dedicated to keeping waste out of landfill, creating job opportunities for people experiencing barriers to work, and fostering community engagement. One of our standout initiatives is Reviva, our reuse shops that embody the principles of sustainability and social impact.

Quality Second-Hand Goods for a Better Tomorrow

Reviva shops are treasure troves of quality second-hand items that don’t cost the earth. From building supplies, furniture, books, and tools to household appliances, clothes, camping gear, exercise equipment, garden accessories, and pet supplies, our diverse range of goods has something for everyone. Every item sold contributes to reducing waste and promoting reuse, aligning perfectly with our mission to protect the environment.

Making a Difference in the Community

Reviva isn’t just about selling second-hand goods; it’s about making a real impact. In the last financial year alone, Reviva saved over 11,965 tonnes of items from ending up in landfill and served over 120,000 customers across our stores. These figures are more than just numbers—they represent a significant positive impact on our planet and our communities.

Empowering Individuals Through Employment

People and groups experiencing disadvantage often face significant barriers to entering the workforce. At Resource Recovery Australia, we address this issue head-on by offering stable and meaningful jobs to those who need them most. Our #WASTE2WAGES model is designed to improve the wellbeing, confidence, and economic livelihood of individuals facing employment barriers.

Training and Development: Building a Skilled Workforce

Training and development are crucial components of our approach. In FY2023, we facilitated 1,869 training opportunities for our team members. These programs help individuals develop job-specific skills, bridge the skills gap, boost confidence, and address barriers to employability. By investing in our employees, we create a skilled workforce that benefits the entire community.

Community Engagement and Support

Reviva is committed to putting the heart of the community first. Our customers are our top priority. Whether it’s helping them unload donations, assisting them in finding treasures, or ensuring our shops are well-organised, we are here to serve. Our team have been trained to test and tag electrical items, ensuring a working piece of equipment to take home. Every dollar spent in a Reviva store stays in the local community, hiring and training local people. This reinforces our #WASTE2WAGES model.

Looking Ahead: People and Planet First

Our mission remains clear: to put people and the planet first. By rescuing goods from landfill and selling them to our loving community, we are not only helping the environment but also fulfilling our commitment to hiring more individuals who face barriers to employment. Our future goals revolve around expanding these efforts, reaching more people, and making an even greater impact.

Join us in our mission to create a sustainable and inclusive future. Visit Reviva, find your next treasure, and support a cause that truly makes a difference.

Addressing Consumption to Tackle Waste in Australia

Australia faces a critical challenge: can we move beyond our linear business-as-usual approach to truly embrace a circular economy? Gayle Sloan, CEO of the Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR), highlights that while Australians are concerned about the environment, our materialistic lifestyle drives waste generation. Since 2005, Australia’s waste per capita has surged, underscoring the need for a national conversation on consumption.
